So, we're off to the Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships...wait a minute! Indoor? Then I don't need these stupid boats, do I?

The Ontario's were held at historic Ridley College in St. Catherine's on March 6, 2005.

GymOverview.JPG
Inside, the gym was a hothouse, with lots of sweaty rowers filling the place. But the atmosphere was great, as usual.

GoodLuckPat.JPG
That's Spencer Brewer, Kelly's boyfriend, giving Kelly's hair a little last-minute ajustment.
|
ReadyToGo.JPG
Loose and relaxed, just the way they should be. Beth Harris, Kelly's doubles partner in the high school season, poses with Spencer and Kelly.
|
WarmUp.JPG
Here's Kelly getting warmed up. She felt good at this stage.
|

OK...now to make sure the hair stays put. That's Sarah Craig on the right. She won the event with an unreal time of 7:12, a long way in front of anyone else.
|
OnYourMark.JPG
Here's Kelly dreaming about the race, while Heather and Spencer seem to have something more interesting to do than watch Kelly.
|
TheEarlyStages.JPG
OK, now we're into the race. They've just started.
|
DoingWell.JPG
We've just passed the half-way point and Kelly's obviously feeling pretty good about how things are going.
|
LastPush.JPG
At the finish, Kelly's making a last desperate push, while Heather eggs her on. Remarkably, Sarah doesn't even look like she's broken a sweat.
|
TheEnd.JPG
Kelly wasn't happy with her time, which was 7:44 and change. It was just off her personal best, but she had been hoping for a top ten finish. It didn't happen.
|
SpencerReady.JPG
Next to go is Spencer, recovered from his shoulder injury in the Canadians in Toronto. Here, he's waiting for the start command.
|
EarlyOn.JPG
All right! This is fun, at least when you've only gone 500 metres or so...
|
Midway.JPG
This isn't quite as much fun now...it's a lot more like work.
|
FinalPush.JPG
"Man, this hurts! And that guy beside me looks like his cheeks are going to explode!"
|
NeedMoreAir.JPG
It's over. Spencer catches his breath, while Kelly, now recovered from her own race, looks on. Spencer just missed the top 10, but was happy with his result.
